A note to reading groups and librarians

I wrote this novel with shared reading in mind. The kind that lingers after the last page and opens into real conversation. Many of the questions it raises aren’t about what happens, but about how people respond under pressure, what they owe one another, and how small choices ripple outward.

If your group enjoys character-driven fiction and thoughtful discussion, I’d be honored for you to consider it.

Why this book works well for groups

Reading groups who have chosen this book often tell me that it sparks conversation around:

  • Moral and emotional choices rather than plot mechanics

  • The tension between individual needs and collective responsibility

  • How people change, or resist change, when familiar structures fall away

  • What community looks like when it’s tested

The story offers room for multiple interpretations and doesn’t insist on a single “right” reading, which tends to make for lively and generous discussions.

Discussion guide

A free Book Club Discussion Guide is available and designed to support open-ended conversation rather than lead it. The questions focus on character, theme, and lived experience. This discussion guide is also included in the back of the book.
